New wineskins are pliable and adaptable, whereas old wineskins are rigid and stiff. The old wineskin does not have the capacity to hold the new wine. A lot of times we pray for God to do new things in our lives yet we are still holding on to old habits, sinful behaviors, and patterns of thinking that are actually detrimental to the new things we desire.
The stretching and testing of our faith may be painful at times but it produces the capacity, stability and maturity in us that is needed to contain the new wine! If we want to fully receive and sustain the new wine, we need new wineskins!!!!! Make room for Growth! Make room for what you are praying for. Ask the Lord to show you what needs to change in your life. He will help you and prepare you.
James 1:2-4 AMP
“Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing.”
Matthew 9:17 NLT
“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved.””
2 Corinthians 4:8-10 AMP
“We are pressured in every way [hedged in], but not crushed; perplexed [unsure of finding a way out], but not driven to despair; hunted down and persecuted, but not deserted [to stand alone]; struck down, but never destroyed; always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown in our body.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT
“throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
