The story of the disciples on the boat in the storm has always encouraged me. While the disciples were frantic, Jesus was sleeping peacefully. He was sleeping peacefully because he knew that the waves would not overtake them.
“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!””
Matthew 8:23-27 NIV
After begging Jesus to do something, Jesus calms the storm but before He calms the storm He asks “Why are you afraid?” Ye of little faith. They had seen Jesus perform miracles. They knew who he was yet they still struggled to believe they would make it through the storm. They made their situation and problem bigger than God. This is something we do all the time. We may not be in a physical storm but when the storms of life happen, sometimes we forget how BIG our God is. We forget his majesty and his power and we become overwhelmed by the situation. We forget that He is our peace in the storm. We forget that with one word He can change our situation
Everytime you feel like the waves of life are crashing around you, remember that Jesus is on the boat. He is right here with you. He promised never to leave you or forsake you. If you are in a storm right now, rest because Jesus is with you. And He is able to give you peace even in the midst of the storm.
